Test Drive FreeDFM Winner!
In early 2003, as part of our Test Drive FreeDFM initiative, we held two drawings – at
IPC/APEX and PCB Design West, respectively – offering an all-expense-paid day of race
driving instruction at the famed Skip Barber School.
One of our winners, Jesse Davenport, had his day on the track in July.
Here’s what he had to say:
The class was great! There were only eight in the class (3 men, 5 women) and they broke
us up into groups of two and three when we went driving.
They covered about a half-dozen basic racing concepts and then we headed out to the cars.
They explained how to get in the car (which is harder than one might think) and enough
about the car to get running.
Each group had its own Dodge Neon pace car which we followed the whole time. After each
lap we would rotate one position so everyone would have the chance at being in the lead.
The great thing about the pace car was they knew exactly how to drive the track, which kept
you from having the wrong car position or speed.
We would do laps for about 20 minutes then go into the pit for a short break before heading
back out. We did this a total of three times which gave us about an hour of driving time.
I definitely had a blast, and I was able to get a picture. Thanks again!
